Honest Opinion Please! Lion Lamps

Last week at Scott's I came across these lamps and I couldn't decide if I loved them or thought they were bad, I even had my blog twin go look at them for me.
I didn't get them but I am still thinking about them. I want to see if the top can be lowered 3-4" and I would definitely do different shades. If that is possible (and they are still available) what do you think?
Yeah or Ney? I am thinking about them for the buffet in my dining room as a wild card. I may paint later as well.....Honest thoughts!

They are kind of neat but kind of weird at the same time. I think if you painted them they would probably look even cooler!

They're not my fave, but I'm sure you could totally make them work to where I'd be wanting a pair of my own!

At first glance they looked kinda neat, but on second glance, they're not the best rendition of a lion. They're sleeping lions. I rather like the rusted urn lamp bases next to the lions. Just my 2 cents.

I'm pretty sure something can be made of them. I would certainly use a strikingly modern shade with them.

Well depending on the price tag I think the Lion Lamps are great! You could paint them easily and look brand new!

I like them, but I'd paint them. And do a rectangular linen shade or something.

YEAAAH!

the idea is great, having lion head bases. however, the expression of the idea could be better...this looks like Mufasa from the Lion King in clay-maytion... but if you got them I'm sure you could style them up beautifully!

Hmmm, could work, or it could be super crazy. Photoshop them into your room to make sure!

maybe paint would turn them around but I have to admit, they are not my favorite.

Yuck. Enough said.

I think with the right shade and the right person they could be great!!! I also think it depends on how much they are, if they aren't too expensive then if you changed your mind a few months later it wouldn't be too bad.

Depending on how you're gonna use them, I think a coat of glossy white paint or matte black would make them! Definitely lower the shade like you suggested and then change the shades out to maybe a drum!!!

I see what you mean... I think they're one of those items where if I used them, they'd look gay, but if A Gay used them, they'd rock. That happens to me a lot!

I think they'd be better painted for sure! They're neat though!

not a good rendition, either stylized or life-like, of a lion. I vote nay.

Don't do it.

I think I might like them better if they were painted... I'm sure you can make them work though! :)

I think the lions face is almost cartoon like, not classic. Painting them may help and lowering the shade would make them look bolder. They are unique and could make a statement. How expensive are they? Are they worth experimenting with? My philosophy is if I hesitated and passed them by-not for monetary reasons, but I wasn't sure for some reason, that first instinct is usually correct.

I like them. They are certainly the kind of unique item that would catch my eye and make me stop and consider the possibilities.

I'm very traditional, but I do try to have at least one unexpected piece in each room. If they were the right price, I think they would work for me...with a new finish, lowered posts, and new shades.

spraypainted,, they could be awesome..or scary

I'm not sure I'm feeling them. Of course, I may see them in your house later and want them ;) I think I'm going on this huge scrolly-iron thing w/ a lion's head in the middle that I have hanging in my entry hall. It was a great price and covers lots of blank wall space but I swear that lion is always looking at me kind of crazy. . .

I like them - especially painted. I would LOVE them for a childs room.

The more I think about these lamps (and I've thought about them!) the more they remind me of a CENTAUR. You know, those half human/ half horse characters that freakin CREEP me out. So, unless you like centaurs, I think you should hold off on the lion lamps. Or find more 'lion like' faces... ya know??

Gosh NO!!!! I think they're ugly. Sorry to disagree but I'm being honest.

The urn next to them is much more interesting. Keep it rustic no paint.

I agree with @inmyownstyle, they miss the "classic" mark. Painted white, lowered shade in a child's room, maybe.......Not feeling them for your dining room. Ugh, this is so hard to say something that I feel is negative. I hope everyone's comments are helping you. Good luck. xo

I'm with Lauren...LOVE them!!! I always like something unexpected and unusual! You go girl...ROCK those lions!!!

Rebekah said...

Um, not that you need more comments, but how much are they?? If they are a "steal" i think if they were painted and new shades, they would def. make a statement.

Mary said...

Yeah...with a lowered shade. I think they're cool.
Let us know what you decide to do.

They are not my favorite. I know you are looking for that interesting piece to make the room, but you can do better. If you have to think that hard about something, it is usually not meant to be!
