Dear Anthro, Do You See My Predicament?

Dearest Anthropologie,

It's me Marianne. What do you mean you don't know me? You should, I am in your stores all the time, I love you with all my heart. In my eyes you can do no wrong....Oh, I see, my name is not on any of the sold receipts in your stores. Well, it is because your prices have put me in a real bind..... You don't understand what I am trying to tell you? Oh okay, I will give you an example.

I would love the be the owner of this dress. I would wear it around town, swirling, twirling, doing my best to make you proud.....

So what is my predicament you ask? Well, I am girl on a tight budget and for the $218 you are asking for this dress I could get all, yes ALL of these dresses combined.

I know, it is unbelievable. I know, I know- you have your reasons, no need to go into detail. All I am saying is that if you could possibly drop your prices a little, you would make me one very happy shopper. At $218 for that dress I could save a few extra pennies and get a DVF (aka every woman's dream):
So my Love, will you see what you can do and get back to me?

XOXO,

Marianne (hopefully anonymous no more)

Too funny! I just spent $220 there on a sweater, short sleeved top and sleeveless top. Last month, I spent $220 at TJ Maxx and I got a pair of capri jeans, cute white shorts, and 10 very cute tops! I should just stick to TJ Maxx, but I LOVE Anthropologie!!

Too funny! I spent 2 hours in Anthropologie when I was in Atlanta. We don't have one in Wilmington. I agree with you on the prices but their clothes make me feel good so once in awhile I say what the heck and stock up! You need that green dress!

I'm right there with you. Wish I could shop at Anthro more. But I say grab the ones from ON, UO, and F21... Sometimes more is better! :) xx-b

Very cute post! Oh, I'm in LOVE with Anthropologie! There is NOTHING in that store that I do not love! I agree with the prices though. It's tough to spend so much. I'm sooo excited that I have a gift certificate just waiting for me to use it! :) Also loving the other dresses you posted. I would put them all over white linen pants...my staple style!

Haha! I love the visualization of how many dresses you can get for the price of an Antro one! Kinda makes you think.. :)

So glad to hear others feel the same way! I was browsing their Web site for a Derby dress, and as cute as they were, I could not justify the cost!

Oh I totally agree with you. I need to attach my name to that letter as well. I swear everytime I go in there I want to cry. A. because everything is so pretty and B. I can't afford anything.

I worked there for a bit during college and even then I couldn't pay anything!

I am right there with you on this one! Maybe the higher ups will stumble across your blog and our wishes will be answered? :)

One can only hope.

Some of those other dresses you featured are darling, too! I'm going to have to scope some of them out.

One of my very favorite dresses comes from Anthro, and I swear I get so much use out it, it's worth ten other dresses :-)... if that helps in your decision-making...BTW, I gave you a shout-out in today's blog because it gave me inspiration for the direction I want to take in my living room: http://urbansardines.wordpress.com/2009/06/24/farewell-dreamsicle/

thanks for the inspiration!

I would be one happy shopper, too :) I so love Anthropologie, but I really don't even take a look because most everything's out of my price range, unless it's a (major) sale. Can we compose a letter to J. Crew while we're at it?

It's such a cute dress, but I agree. The DVF dress would be such a better use of that money.

To cute and funny! The other dresses were great finds! Like you, I love Anthropologie, but the prices don't quite match my pocketbook. Oh, well...

Thanks for stopping by the other day! As far as the Anthropology stuff goes, I have read that they have sued Forever 21 like four times or something for copyright infringement. Their dresses are exact copies, and for like $30. Maybe you should patrol your Forever 21 a little more often, you might get lucky!

Honestly, I would go for the cheapie dresses and wear them ALL SUMMER LONG...forget about the ridiculously overpriced Anthro one! You will be so happy knowing you can wear a new dress every weekend and feel glamorous all the time! On the same note, if you're going to buy something pricey, DEFINITE save and get the DVF, it's timeless and they're made SO well....

I completely agree with you. I love Anthro but everything in there is so expensive. I rather go to Urban and buy the same quality dresses for a fraction of the price.

Gracie said...

Oh wow! I can't believe you could get all those dresses for the price of one. Since we don't have an Athropologie here I don't have that predicament =p But I do like that Urban Outfitter babydoll dress. Too cute!

Diane said...

I feel your pain too ... just remember it is more in your attitude... how you hold yourself ... than what you wear.

Christina said...

i am sooooo with you! i heart anthro so much it hurts but i will not/cannot pay that much for a dress. (it is awesome though).

As I get older I am learning the inevitable truth... you get what you pay for. Think of every item in terms of cost per wear, no matter how many cheap items you buy, you won't feel the same. If you spend the money and wear it lots...it's a bargain!!
