Help me fellow bloggers and readers! You know it is bad when I do 2 posts in one day! Here is my problem. I pick out paint colors for a living, and I love it, yet one color I still have not mastered. I am looking for 2 colors- the first color is a really light true gray that won't turn blue at all. The second color is a light gray/blue/silver that won't turn BABY BOY/Nursery blue. The other day I was helping a Jessica pick out a dining room color with the second color combination in mind. But this is what happened...
Yikes! Not the look we were going for! We were looking more for a room like this from Domino-
Which is Smoke by Benjamin Moore-Or this room seen on Colour me Happy-Which is this Benjamin Moore Whirlpool-So please, if you can help me get these colors under control I would forever be indebted! I will take any and all suggestions!

Oh goodness!! Hmmm... my only tip woud be to pick something that seriously looks gray or even white on the chip, because once it goes up on the wall it will have a hint of color but I'm afraid to give you a specific color without seeing it in the right lighting...
You should definitely contact Maria at Colour Me Happy- I'm sure she'll have just the color for you!!

You know how I am when it comes to paint... I can never get it right! I do know that Silver Marlin by BMoore is a pretty color... but don't know if it is what you are looking for!
Prime it in white first and then use a Benjamin Moore (one slide shade more gray than you want). Good luck chica
This may not be helpful to you in Birmingham...but Farrow & Ball makes the most beautiful grays.
I am going to email this post to Maria from Colour Me Happy, she is a designer and paint color expert. She is amazing!
Darling, I would be delighted to give you my two cents! It's dark right now and I'm too comfortable on my sofa with my laptop at the moment, but tomorrow morning I will pull out my paint chips and send some numbers your way! Thanks for the mention, now I get to add you to my thanks list :)
One more thing before I go tonight. Blue always has an undertone, there are grays that read more neutral than others but basically, gray is either blue, gray, or mauve.
Blue is definitely a tricky colour to choose but the only way you'll know if it's a baby blue is if you compare it to a blue that actually is a baby blue in your paint deck. That's how you'll get a read for where you are in choosing blues.
I like the Benjamin Moore Smoke color! I think that room gets so much light that Jessica needs a color with a lot of gray in it.
I just saw a great color on Wind Losts blog (windlost.blogspot.com) Its from the Howards home that she posted, in their foyer- its called "Blue Hubbard" by Sherwin-Williams.
Check out her post from 2-22-09, its the second picture down.
Actually what I should have asked you last night, is what colour is the one in that first picture? Let me know and then I'll take a look. It looks like there's a lot of light in that room which means smoke might be too light.
My sister used a color in her kitchen and living room called Coastal Fog by Benjamin Moore. It is a really light gray, and I haven't been able to detect any blue or green undertones in it.
The colour I recommend is 1564 Beach Glass. That room has a lot of light and the blue in general has to be considerably grayed down before it looks sophisticated (not baby blue).
Is there something in the living room that's blue? It would be better to pick a colour based on the blue already in the house than just from the sky like I'm doing here. Like I've said in one of my past posts, it's hard to get excited about a colour, or get that it's even the right one when it doesn't relate to anything.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the couch in the BM Whirlpool pic, somehow I think JW would NOT go for it... but I still want it!
