My Dream House-Guest Blogging

I wanted to say thank you to Paloma on...

for having me as a guest blogger yesterday. The topic was my dream home and let me tell you, it was hard to narrow down images I love and commit to anything (cobbler's kids you know). You can check it out here.

In other news I still have no idea why my right side column has taken permanent residence on the bottom of the blog, I guess it is happy there. I have tried several ways to fix it and nothing seems to work. Hopefully I will get that resolved soon. Any guess on what might the problem are welcome!

Momma Said There'd Be Days Like This...

This post is for all the Moms out there. I know you come to blogs to see fabulous interiors, but what about a little peek at reality? Can you guess what you are looking at?I will give you a hint....
That's right, it is a picture taken just the other day of this sofa y'all loved from this post. Little fingers mistook it for an art canvas and used markers to create this masterpiece...
The fabric is under stain warranty so this story should have a happy ending (I always recommend any stain treatments that come with a warranty). Has this happened to you? For those of you who asked the sofa is the Rockford from Rowe...
In other mom related news (no, I am not pregnant) my blogger friend Averill is expecting a little one and asked me to guest blog on Odi et Amo with a post for expectant mothers. And while we do not have kids yet, I am working on my 15th nursery so I do know a thing or two about those bundles of joy...
Please stop by and check it out!

Okay let's hear it, we have all been there! Red wine on the sofa, markers on the carpet, dog chewing the pillow, cat scratching the chair, nail polish on the coffee table- I would love to hear if you have had a moment like the picture above!

Thank you E.H. for letting me share!!!!

Love The One You're With In Houston

I am very excited about today's guest post in the "Love The One You're With" series. If I (and many others) have said it once I have said it a million times, it is amazing the spectacular people you meet in the blog world. Deb is someone who not only has been a great blogging friend but also made a permanent mark on my heart and has been a light during dark times. Dumwit Tellher makes me laugh out loud, cry sometimes and inspires me constantly. Her thoughtfulness shines at all time as you can see below......

Loving the one you're with
isn't always as easy as singer Stephen Stills sang back in 1971. Although, "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with," was & still is, darn good advice.Love comes in so many forms; it can be disguised and expressed in a variety of mysterious and mischievous ways. I suspect that for those of us who covet design, one of our main outlets would be where we begin and end each day....home.
Since 1977 with my first home purchase under my belt and now 8 homes later, it's like having gone to medical school; you have learned to perfect aortic valve bypass. Now with our home here in Houston on the market, you begin to question your choices as perspective home buyers and agents dissect your home and question your style. But at the end of the day I know that our choice was a good one. This 1981, 4330 sq. ft. home was a custom built that was sold for over $265,000 back in the day. The owner's then preceded to put another whopping $80,000 into a custom over-sized pool, patio and landscaping that included 12 palm trees. So what sold us on this home? It was that eye popping pool. Yes of course the home has an abundance of built-in's that you don't see in a spec home. A tremendous plus both architecturally and for they're practicality. Then there is the two-story windows in the great room, custom moldings throughout and very large rooms; safe neighborhood and great schools. The kind of house you'd like your kids to bring their friends home to. Plenty of space and room for Mom & Dad to hide.
Today, I watched a segment on NBC's The Today Show. The story was about a young couple from Portland, Oregon that over the last 3 years have trimmed down their belongings and their way of living to a bare minimum. Their message was 'can money buy you happiness'? They live in a 650 sq. ft. Portland apartment and sold their car. They allowed themselves each to keep 100 personal items and the rest they donated to charity. The point I am trying to make is our love of our home comes in all shapes and sizes. It's about the memories, the hard work and about making it our own. Pick out those things that drew you to your home and build on that. If I've learned anything in this life it is that knowing how to love what you have and finding contentment is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. It's one of the greatest things you can teach your children. There is always better, bigger and a fancier address. But what makes your home special is you. For us, we are moving to Scotland and we will be renters. For once in my life, it's sounding really good. Now let's get back to that pool!

Marianne thank you sincerely for asking me to participate in your though provoking series. It was a great joy.

Thank you again Deb, I couldn't say it better! For more from Deb visit Dumbwit Tellher or HERE or HERE.

Love The One Your With- Bright, Bold, Beautiful

One of the earlier posts I made on this blog was called, "Love the One Your With" and pointed out some things I love in my own house. It is human nature (and doubled if you read blogs) to want to change your house or wish for more. Sometimes it is good to sit back and focus on what we already have that we love. So I decided to do a guest blogger series with this theme and I am so pleased to start with Laura from Bright, Bold & Beautiful! By now I am sure you know I think Laura is F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S, of course as an artist but also as a dear blogger friend!

Thank you Marianne for including me in this lovely series! I guess you can say that I really do practice what I preach... In every room in my home, there are bright, bold, and beautiful colors... found in my upholstery, wall color, and yes, my watercolors!

This photo is my favorite corner in the main living room. With the bright yellow wall color as the back drop, the tropical watercolor paintings really stand out.
In the same room, my abstract watercolor painting with rich jewel tone colors makes a statement above the mantle.
In my dining room, I painted simple florals and framed them all the same for a symmetrical look around the mirror.
Last, but certainly not least, my art studio is where I get my inspiration.Thank you Marianne for allowing me to invite you into my home!
Wow, thank you Laura! That was so fun, especially seeing the studio, I love to see where creative people work and I dying for a big work table.

For more from Laura be sure to visit her blog, Bright, Bold & Beautiful and her shop on Etsy!

Where You Can Find Me...

You will have to excuse me this morning, I am behind! We came home yesterday evening after 4 wonderful days on the beach and I am playing catch up! I will be back later with the giveaway winner and more. Until then you can find me on my wonderful friend Camila's blog...She left town last week and I am sure is having a wonderful trip!
** Speaking of- we just went to Perdido which is on the Gulf Coast and it was wonderful. The weather was great and the water was fine. I had several people e-mail me who have upcoming trips planned who were worried about the oil spill. I say don't cancel future trips just yet!
