This week has been crazy, but I am beginning to think life is always going to crazy as in C-C-C-razy! So, I am going to sign off for the rest of the week and hopefully will come back refreshed next week. I did want to leave you with this image though from Anthropologie...
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the chalkboard as a headboard. So here is my question for y'all....Do you think in the "real" world this would be possible? I really want to try it somewhere. Maybe if the image on the chalkboard was paint instead of chalk? But then you would not be able to change it easily. I would love to hear ideas.

I think it would be great in a child's room is the rest of the design was very sharp!

And look at the rug drawn at the foot of the bed. Charming...I think you could make it work, if done in paint. But then like you said, you couldn't change it and more importantly the charm would be taken away. Janell
I think it looks really great, the best way I can think of to get the same effect, and keep the versatility of the 'chalk-board' would be to get a large frame with the backing painted in chalk-board paint, then add the glass front, so you can see it perfectly, keep the design intact, and change it whenever you feel like it... That's what I would do, anyway!

yeah, it looks so good. but not too sure about practical.
I love the look, but like the others, I'm not sure how practical it would be.
But, you might do this test first.
Roll 1 or 2 coats(no more since it can appear milky over black) of flat water based varnish on the blackboard surface before you write on it.
You can gently erase it when you are ready for a new design.
However, this wouldn't keep the chalk from getting onto bed linens.
I think it would just become a place for you guys to write love notes to each other!!!

I thought about doing a chalkboard wall on a playroom wall or a small wall in my son's room, but my mother-in-law was totally against it because of the mess of all the chalk dust. I guess she has a point. It is very clever and endearing, though. Did you see 500 Days of Summer? The guy in that film I believe had a chalkboard wall behind his bed. Great movie - check it out if you haven't seen it.
Marianne, I just love this. I think it could work in real life too -- though I wouldn't chalkboard my floor as well. But you could definitely do it with the wall, keep the floor very monotone...Oooh, I would love to see how it turns out if you decide to do it.
Oh I think this amazng,and I definitely think it is doable. It reminds me of 500 days of summer where Joseph Gordon Levit has a whole wall of chalkboard paint where he draws a window with a city scene. I say why not!! Go for it!
I think it's a great look and I love the idea, but I think in most adult rooms it wouldn't work. As soon as you sat up in bed or moved your pillow, the art would be gone. A guest room might work great though...
Leave it once again to the Anthro team; their stylists are always the best. I loved this idea aesthetically too but like you said, wouldn't really work. if you did a headboard where it went to the ceiling then perhaps you could write on it (w/chalk) from only above the pillows so it does not get rubbed off. Sadly, teachers actually used that type of chalkboard when I was in school. Yikes!
Pretty sure I'd ruin that beautiful sketch with my hair -- and the idea of getting chalk dust all over the bed is kinda gross!

Me again, I am having a slow day today... one of many! I meant to type 'perspex' instead of glass... slightly safer and more practical!! I did have another thought, (gasp) I was wondering how a clear coating of hairspray or washable equivalent would work? It is used to stop smudging on pages etc, and it would wash off if you wanted to change the design...

It's a cute idea, but I don't know if it would work in the real world. I'm picturing myself reading a book in bed only to find the back of my head covered in chalk dust the next morning. LOL!

Really really cute idea - especially for teenagers! I would have loved this when I was younger - the versatility to be creative and change it out every day!
The only way I could see this working is if you had a plain and very low real headboard on a bed that could be disguised with pillows - that would allow you to pull the bed away from the wall a few inches and have less of a chance of smudging the design.

I love it. i love the idea of changing style without actually buying a new bed. Maybe the entire wall and floor is a bit too much in a real house, just a piece of one wall should be perfect and super fun.
