Coffee Talk

These days there is no excuse for a boring coffee table. No longer just a place to put up your feet or a remote control catchall, your coffee table can really set the tone for your room. When we moved into our house I knew exactly what I wanted. I (we) were looking for a big, wood coffee table with a rustic feel that still looked clean. (I had this one made)There are so many options out there though, so many ways to show your personality...
Modern to traditional, glass to upholstered.

I prefer larger more substantial tables...
I love a good tufted ottoman for a table.
Something a little funky maybe?

Then there is always the blog favorite, a clear table- glass or Lucite...
Here are just a few I have seen lately that I am loving...

Worlds Away (e-mail me for pricing)
This table Ikea had on the cover of their catalog a couple of years ago. They pushed 2 together to make a large square table and I still can't stop thinking about it.
Ikea
I love a good rustic piece...slightly industrial? Even better.
Trade Source (e-mail me for pricing)
Of course your coffee table doesn't have to be a table at all. My favorite ones are often interesting objects used differently. For example, who does not like a good trunk?

Or what about 2 or 3 smaller pieces instead of one big table? Two of these would be good looking.
Restoration Hardware
Maybe something colorful?
CB2
While I LOVE a glass table, Lucite can be a cheaper way to achieve the look. Looking for something with a little more texture? What about a bench upholstered in something unexpected like this gray leather.

CB2 and Crate & Barrel

What is your coffee table? What would be your dream table?

I really like your rustic coffee table!

I also love the lucite, but our family is better off with a huge ottoman. I would really love a velvet tufted ott. w/ little wheels...change out for spring/summer. :)

I love, love those industrial pieces, although my space just wouldn't fit them. I'd love a round coffee table. Right now we're sitting with one from ikea. It has shelfs on one side and drawers on the other. We use it to house all of our puzzles. Works great for now, but it will be getting replaced in the next year or two.

I LOVE your rustic table, it's gorgeous and big, I love a big coffee table too. I originally wanted to have one similar to yours made, but then stumbled upon an old iron one for a great price that I couldn't pass up, so I think I'm going to get my wood in a dining table now... great coffee table ideas though!

I couldn't agree more about your coffee table sentiments. Yours is just fantastic!

We're in the process of figuring out furniture for the Tokyo apartment and since husbands firm is paying for it, we're looking into some rentals with the option to buy later.

I have to tell you, it's been a bear trying to figure these things out. Thank you for some Monday morning inspiration!

I have often though a coffee table can set the mood of the room. I love the funky yellow one, but it's a bit too whimsical for my place.

I love your new coffee table! You've reminded me I still don't have one in my new house yet. Gotta work on that...thanks for the great ideas!

I had such a hard time choosing a coffee table for our living room. Finally went with 2 small wood tables. We have a small room. I like them because you can move them around easily. I do love a huge rustic style table too though.

FAbulous post Marianne! I love how a coffee table can really give you an idea of someones personality. Lately I have been trying to decide whether or not to use an old chest at my parents'. I might take the plunge!

your coffee table is gorgeous! can't wait to see it in person (like how I just invited myself over). Mine is and antique with a marble top. My first big purchase.

Because our couch is so big (sectional) I would love to have a lucite table.

If I owned a home with a spacious living room, I would love a rustic table like yours!

Great images! I like the idea of a tufted ottoman to use as a coffee table, at least right now, while the kiddos are little. There are so many cool options available. Thanks for some inspiration!

Lovely! So many options to choose from. I am working on our living room, and I've decided I want plush ottoman-like stools because we prop our feet up so much :-)! But, I love a classic coffee table. Especially loving the farmhouse looking ones and the lucite. I love how lucite keeps the space looking open.

I def. need to update my coffee table, its totally boring and nothing special. I'd love a lucite one, the search is on to find one that wont break the bank now :)

I must say, I'm officially in love with your coffee table. Where did you have it made?

Great images! I love this post! Your wooden coffee table works so well and gives the room such a unique feel. My favorite type of "coffee table" would be using an ottoman with a leather tray on top to create the table top. I think it can be used as a dual function (coffee table/ottoman) and is very comfy to put your feet on...not that I would do that...

I also think another fun feature about coffee tables are the accessories you put on top.
