One Day...

"One day I will have a house with Ann Sacks tile" has appeared on this blog before. I would like to add to that wish. Soooo.... One day I will have a house with a master bath that includes Michael S. Smith for Ann Sacks tile. Has a certain ring doesn't it?

Color At The Lake...

If I have said it once, I have said it 20 times- I heart Kay Douglass. I was so excited to come across her lake house last night on Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles. I love that she uses so much white, yet bright color. While I love pretty neutrals I crave color in doses just like this. One of these days I am going to have a fuschia wing chair.

LOVE the color cowhides.

IF...I was going to...

If I was going to spend $700 on a new purse how would I ever pick a color?
It's a good thing spending that on a purse is a non issue for now....right? Speaking of bags, I recently had a sweet reader remind me that this bag from a previous post could make a good diaper bag....

Hmmm, now that is something to think about.

The Light

Hi, sorry for the absence yesterday, we were dealing with a very large pine tree that tried to take out our house. We are fine, Harry (dog, the only one home at the time) is also fine although I think he needed a Xanax and the house is fine for the most part but it was craziness nonetheless. Anyhoo, I had several e-mails about the light in the soon to be nursery...I found it in an antique store months before Patrick and I bought our house 4 years ago and it stayed in the back in my car for a lonnnnnggggg time but I knew I wanted it. The store thought it came from a restaurant probably from the 50's but that is all I know, sorry I wish I knew more.
I do love this light, but it is not staying in the nursery. I have another light I want to use (if it ever comes, I am starting to doubt I will ever see it). This light will go to a good home though, our guest room! I can't wait to have a different light in there, it has been neglected for way too long.

The Nursery, 30 Weeks-She's A Beaut Clark

Today I am 30 weeks. I am pretty sure it is best for a nursery not to look like this at this point- as in nothing has been done. What if I told you this is actually after I cleaned this room this weekend? After yesterday you are probably beginning to think I am messy, but really I promise I usually am not. Once the office moved out of the house this room became the momentary junk room and I am not going to lie, it was nice while it lasted. But now we are in our 3rd trimester and it is time to kick things into gear.So this past weekend we made a step in the right direction. Taaa daaaa, our new rocker. Taking a line from one of our favorite movies I found this chair on Craigslist and promptly e-mailed it to Patrick under the title, "She's A Beaut Clark". He did not seem to see what I saw.
However, being a good, supportive husband he drove with me an hour on Sunday to check it out and low and behold look what left (craigslist) grandma's dining room and came home with us. Initially I was not planning on buying a rocker to recover, gliders these days are so ridiculously comfortable it is hard to think about other options. But the ones I really liked were all on the (too) high end for our budget and I liked the lines, arms and tufting of this chair. Also, I am excited about getting to use our own fabric and this one is very comfortable as well.
Not that the fabric will be anything wild and crazy. Currently I am thinking a solid grey/linen something with a darker welt but we will see.....

(Last) Week In Review

I had intended to post a week review on Friday but last week was crazy. This sort of crazy...Not that I mind being busy with so many fun projects going on. Here is peek at what I was looking at last week. The days were filled with lots of upholstery decisions...

I am pretty sure my long standing love affair with plaid will never die, this sofa only fanned the flames.

LOTS of paint decisions (first coat looking good)...

Sometimes with paint you have to get hands on, a different client got this picture of an early morning sampling session. After detailed studying and debate over brick leading to the perfect choice it is important the trim looks just as good!

I have a few clients building which I have mentioned before I love because it is like watching a dream come true in front of your eyes. Two of these are dream homes coming together, one is a vacation home being rebuilt after the storms.Inside one where a brick arch makes me so very happy...

Arches of a different kind welcoming you in...

A new (at least to me) fabric that immediately caught my eye...

And some more fabric that called my name...

I am starting this week with a clean office and can't wait to get right back to it!

Quiet Time- Happy Father's Day

Father, it is Your Commandment that we should honor our fathers;

Hear the prayers we offer You for them.Grant them many years on earth and keep them in health of mind and body.

Bless their word and all they do.

Give them back a hundred-fold whatever they have done for us.

Inspire them with Your love and help them to fulfill Your holy law.

One day, may we be their comfort and support,

So that having enjoyed their affection on earth

We may have the joy of being with them forever in Your home in Heaven.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Love The One You're With- My Notting Hill

Today I am so excited to have Michele from My Notting Hill as a guest blogger! Her blog is one that I have been reading since I first started blogging, I feel like we go way back, just like old friends.

I love Marianne's concept of "Love the One You're With" and was very excited when she asked me to participate. The reality is that we bought our house more for the location than the layout and over the years it has been a source of occasional frustration. Although there's been additions and remodeling projects, I've chosen a few spaces that weren't going to be altered but still needed to be improved upon. First up - the right corner of my living room. No matter the furniture placement, it always seemed to be a dark, forgotten corner. This was particularly troubling because the room doesn't receive much light anyway. For a number of years a large round table was there but that only seemed to reinforce the slightly off center placement of the fireplace. One day I was moving furniture around and by accident this demilune table from Wisteria ended up near this corner. Well, it seemed to work, especially when paired w/a narrow mirror I had recently bought, painted and couldn't find a place for until now. During the day the mirror picks up light from the other room and at night reflects back the light from the lamp.
This is where the black demilune table used to be - off to the side of our front door. Now there's a more practical bench that serves as a temporary place to collect kid's backpacks, etc.
Our house is a 1950's ranch and I hated how the bedroom door opened directly into the hallway right off the living room. After much complaining on my part, my husband agreed to move the door over a few feet (into a former closet) to create a small entry before you now enter the bedroom from the side. This entry is 3 1/2 ft wide and 5 ft deep and for a long time there was nothing in it, leaving it feel a bit neglected. Now I'm happy w/this narrow bamboo table that also adds interest to this space when you view it from the living room. The bamboo piece is the bottom half of a coat rack and the books stacked on top camouflage the opening where umbrellas go.

Marianne - thanks again for asking me to participate. It always feel better to love what you have than to pine for something different!

Thank you Michele! I especially love the mirror and now I have added a bamboo piece to my wish list after seeing yours.

A New Workspace

With my office now moved out of the house I find myself lost with what to do with house related bills, invitations, etc. Exactly where is the tape? Do we have any stamps here? We have a tiny nook in the kitchen and this picture from Better Homes and Gardens got my wheels turning.
I am going to seriously consider a secretary for that space. Reminds me of an oldie but goodie from Eddie Ross... First image Better Homes and Gardens

I Interrupt This Blog To Ask...

Has anyone tried one of these shakes?
I would blame this random post on pregnancy but let's be honest, my love for ice cream has nothing to do with being an incubator at the moment.

Monday In Morocco

After a wonderful weekend it is hard to get back to the grind. Time for a little daydreaming...what about Morocco. Liza Bruce's home does just the trick...
